About Joshua
Joshua wants to bridge the gaps between different art forms with his performances. He comfortably sings early music, classical, crooning, musical theater, opera, choral and other styles.
"To me, a performer can bring an audience to a better place, a new universe that only exists between the people I sing for and myself. I want to bring new audiences to classical music; with the same vigor I want to bring new sounds like world music and contemporary to the classical music community."
This pursuit has led him to performance experiences as broad as from the stage of Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis to singing alongside drag queens at the conference center in Austin, MN to touring Brazil in two operas.
“My whole life I've had really broad interests. I worked with the elderly for five years, I worked as a personal vegan chef for a year. I have so much I want to offer the world because I have truly been blessed in so many areas."

Classical Music
"Choir is where it all began for me. The many styles that one must learn have given me such perspective on the use and training of the human voice." Joshua has given recitals of art song and performed solos with a 60 piece orchestra and 200 member choir in oratorios like Bach's Johannes Passion. A common conception of opera is that it is too serious and esoteric, and at a glance it is not hard to see why that seems to be the case. "I love opera, but it is complicated. We need to bring opera into the 2020s and expose the bias and frankly hatred present in some operas.”
Theater
"I started singing in church before I could talk, but my passion is storytelling. As much as I have found a home in classical music, I've always thought of myself as an actor and a theater geek."
Before he was performing in operas Joshua cut his teeth on the stage performing in plays and musicals. “What I love about live theater is the delicate dance of words, music, and visuals a that keeps the relationship between performer and audience alive.”
Voice Teaching
"I am passionate about creating appreciation for all kinds of music and art in my work. I think the best way to do that is from the ground up by teaching students, young and old." At Lawrence, he was the first ever tutor for the voice science and pedagogy course and went on to assist the singing diction teachers at his conservatory as the English, French, German, and Italian diction tutor. He teaches private students from home and has taught in the Chanhassen school district. "I almost ended up a choir teacher. I was taking music education classes in college and led a fair share of choral groups in my day. Don't get me wrong, I love choir teachers and have nothing but respect for them, I just do not think of it as the whole picture of what I want to do. I love working with individuals to find their voice and create art with the same machinery we all have that keeps us alive by breathing"
